Happy New Year

December 31st, 2007
Well happy new year to all! I hope everyone’s getting drunk and having a good time tonight! As for me, I’m not doing much this year. Just staying in and watching 24 with the parents. Hopefully next new year’s eve will be more eventful. This year’s been great, from going to San Francisco, to Yosemite, getting my internship, starting this blog and getting a SWEET Intuos3 tablet, I’d say it’s been a good year.

Just stumbled upon this great e-book written by Wishful Thinking’s Mark McGuinness. Every creative person should take a look at this book.

Feist

So if you still haven’t seen any of Feist’s videos, you MUST check them out. Lots of dancing, flying and just awesomeness.

From now on we’d like a clause in Feist’s record contract– she gets to make 25 music videos a year as long as she dances in every one. In “One Evening”, Feist dances with a nervous looking gentleman, performing a charmingly goofy synchronized routine. The “Mushaboom” video was Feist dancing with a crowd of people and best friend Peaches, who keeps on pulling Feist back to the ground each time she threatens to float away.

Patrick Daughters directed “Mushaboom,” “My Moon Man” and “1 2 3 4.” He’s also directed videos for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kings of Leon, The Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Bright Eyes and more awesome indie/rock musicians. Oh yeah, and those sweet surreal Zune commercials that recently came out, that was Daughters too.

And if you’ve seen the new iPod Nano commercial and tired of new iPods coming out every five minutes, you’ll definitely appreciate this MadTV sketch I found on YouTube.

Crestock Final Round

December 19th, 2007

1) Illustration by Rarz

Great work at the Crestock Photoshop Contest! Voting has ended for this round, but they’ll be announcing their winner on Friday. I’ve never been a fan of the voting system. Lots of the illustrations with the top votes aren’t very good and I’m highly suspicious of fraud/spam votes. There are also plenty of really talented entries who have very few votes. After seeing the results in the Green Label Art contest earlier this year, I’ve decided not to trust in the online voting system.

Anyways, there are some real awesome entries, so here’s my list of my favorite 15, in no particular order. Make sure to check out the entries, voting is over, but it’s nice to see the work anyways. Good luck to all the contestants!

Illustrator Coloring

December 14th, 2007

Just found Smashmethod (aka Dan Meyer) on DA today. What really caught my attention was his Vector Coloring video tutorial. The compression of the video kind of sucks, but the quality of the tutorial is great. He goes over each step from line art to color to shading. Great information for the novice Illustrator user. Definitely the best vector tutorial I have found.  Hes also releasing a DVD soon.

This Tutorial is 1 of 5 from a DVD full of tutorials, which I should be releasing sometime soon. All the files on the DVD are DVD quality video. These online posts are very low res versions of the same material.

Make sure to check out his other tutorials and his artwork. Lots of cool vectors and abstract work.

Yippee for patterns! Colour Lovers just got a new section where you can upload or download a bunch of patterns to your liking to use on websites, desktops, artworks, etc. Best of all - they have a sweet feature that lets you customize the look and colors of your pattern.
